Landmark Victorian Addition

This addition adds practical modern home function to an occupied, historic structure. The added program includes a garage and workshop space at the ground floor with a master bedroom suite over the garage. The addition is connected to the original by a bridge space that includes a mudroom and stair core.

The addition is designed to be a secondary form to the primary, original building, and clearly delineated from the original through a bridging, connection piece. Details of the addition are modern farmhouse-style. It does not contrast with the original, but one would not confuse it for Victorian either. We struck a balance that will honor the original and provide much needed function for today’s inhabitants.
