Job Opportunities

Land+Shelter is seeking qualified candidates with at least 5 years of experience to join the L+S team. Land+Shelter is so named to underscore a balance between the built environment and the landscape. We practice this design philosophy within the majestic canvas of the Rocky Mountains.

We’re excited to add a new member to our team and we’re looking for someone to join us in our devotion to design. We’re able to hire at various levels, so this posting is intended to capture anyone from Job Captain to Project Architect level.

We’re a small firm, and employees must be well rounded to fit our needs well. We combine hand sketching, Sketchup, Revit, and Lumion in our production workflow, and we expect folks to be competent in these programs or at least be adept at learning software. Zero Revit experience will be a disqualifier unless you have a strong case for how quickly you can learn that type of program. But overall – we’re looking for a philosophy and personality fit as much as anything else.

The best fit will be a flexible architect who enjoys design from concept to completion. Although we each naturally gravitate to certain aspects of the profession, we enjoy a pretty flat hierarchy, and most folks do most everything. If you are especially talented at HR, IT, or at graphics, you may see more of that type of work, but it will not be your full-time role.

It’s important that applicants understand Colorado and are familiar with the area from Glenwood Springs to Aspen where most of our projects are located. Locals will receive preference in our hiring, but remote is OK as well. Work from home or from our office in Carbondale, Colorado. Remote applicants must be full time residents of the United States and work mountain time hours. No exceptions.

Our portfolio of work splits pretty evenly between commercial and residential work and employees work on a variety of project types.

Consistent office hours are expected although the specific hours of the day are flexible. We make reasonable allowances for parenting, personal time, powder days, and long weekends. Active community engagement and nonprofit participation outside of work hours is encouraged, and we offer paid time off to encourage community engagement. The L+S benefits package includes standard vacation and medical, plus overtime, community service paid time off, sick pay, continuing education, and a 401k matching benefit.

Must love architecture.

Applicants please send resume, portfolio, cover letter, and at least two recent references to employment@landandshelter.com. Note: Applicants sending work examples without collecting them into a portfolio format will not be considered.
