River Park Townhomes
This duplex in downtown Basalt was built as a redevelopment of an existing single family home. The original log cabin was disassembled and the logs were salvaged for future use. The contemporary design and interiors were meant to set the building apart from the previously built units in the community. The collaboration between Land + Shelter and the architects (Olsen+Kelley) gave Land + Shelter the opportunity to assist with design and select all interior and exterior materials.
The building was built to be energy efficient; it scored 77 on the Home Energy Rating System (HERS) energy audit (23% more efficient than standard construction). Environmentally friendly materials include bamboo floors, zero VOC paint, PaperStone countertops (made of recycled newspaper), Hardie Board siding, blown cellulose insulation, energy efficient appliances, water heaters and furnaces. The landscaping was designed to be native and conserve water without an abundance of grass.
